Can you answer shifterred’s question about Depression?:

I am planning on doing a project next quarter about manic depression, and find a lot more of the intimate details lacking.

Thanks!

Depression Feedback: Well I don’t know too much about this but I would have to say, There really isn’t a measurement of that because it is manic depression. Manic Depression is sparatic, unpredictable and unmeasurable. So in other words it veries from patient to patient!

Depression Feedback: There is nothing in Bipolar Disorder that is typical! It is very, very person specific and you can not give a definition. However that is why there are different types of bp: 1 or 2.

BP1 is faster cycling than BP2, it means that cycles would be shorter. There are bp people that can be manic and depressed in matter of few hours. However, there are others (like me) that could be manic or hypomanic from 2 to 4 months!

I recomend you to check bipolar.about.com - it is easy to read and understand and it is a good introduction to bp. IT has all the different bp types, not only 1&2. Also is a lot of info on treatment and meds!

Hope it helps, but just keep in mind BP is a very subjective disorder!

Depression Feedback: It really depends. A lot of people have episodes triggered by seasons. Robin Williams is bi-polar. He’s depressive in the winter and manic in the summer.
I think it also depends on the person. Some people cycle very rapidly, each only lasting days or even hours! Some people have longer cycles. It’s really hard to say.

Depression Feedback: Depends on the person’s cycle. Some rapid cycle and go through mania and depresstion quickly like a few hours apart, others the cycles are longer lasting a few weeks or more between the two polars. Do a web search. There is tons of info available.

Depression Feedback: My dad is bi-polar and there was NEVER any rhyme or reason to his behavior. He could be fine and happy one minute and completely down and depressed the next. He could stay depressed for weeks or go months without ever showing any signs of being depressed. I was younger during his “bad” times (he’s on meds now and is doing so much better), and I either don’t know about a lot of things that went on (because I was so young) or what I do know about, I’ve sort of pushed back and tried to forget. But one thing I do remember - his behavior was NEVER predictable.

Depression Feedback: I have anxiety/depression, but take antidepressents to help with my mood disorder. It keeps the seratonin flowing to the brain so I’m on an even keel. But, boy, do I miss those manic episodes! I felt high and energetic for days! I would sleep maybe four hours a nite and feel totally rested. But, just like a drug, there’s the come down…I’d be mentally and physically drained..anxious..depressed..the whole nine yards.

Depression Feedback: It depends. I’m Cyclothymic or a “rapid cycler”.

My manic episodes last 2 days at most… most often less and they are few and far in between. Yeah, it feels great but my body is so exhausted and my mind just won’t shut up. My head is so noisy when I’m like that.

My depressive episodes are constant and last for a long time. Usually months…
