Can you answer apup76’s question about Depression?:
What antidepressants do not cause suicide ?
I want to quit smoking, but I want to take something that will make me feel relaxed.
Like the relief from having a cigarette. A surge of calm.

Depression Feedback: Anti depressants do not make you feel calm, but there has been research into using them to help smokers quit. Apparently they can help fight cravings.
Talk to a doctor.
Depression Feedback: I suggest going to your doctor and asking them what would be right for you. you have to kinda try different ones til you find the one that’s right for you.
Depression Feedback: It makes me laugh when i see antidepressent ads that list side effects such as ‘ may cause deeper depression or suicide’..haha.
But I am sorry I can’t help you
Depression Feedback: well, i have been to many docs.
they urge me to try meds that will take weeks to take into the bloodstream… and they all have side-effects, including suicide.
anit’depressants that workd fast such as xanax are not prescribed anymore due to the fact they are considered “street drugs” now. they are avoided until nothing else works.
so anyway, if you do not push for the fast-acting pills such as xanax, you are looking at 2-4 weeks for meds to kick into your system (these are, of course, NOT considered street drugs since they don’t take affect for so long)… trial after trial period.
just wanted you to know what i have been told when seeking anti-depressants, even after 3 stays in a mental ward.
Depression Feedback: Wellbutrin is supposed to be good for people trying to quit the habit. For the antidepressants that do not cause suicide part, none of them do. It depends on the severity of the person taking it. Everyone is different. I’ve been on about 6 diff ones in the past 4 years including wellbutrin and zoloft. Zoloft being the popular one to cause suicide, but I’ve never had the urge to do such a thing. So again it depends on the person taking it and how bad they are mentally.
Depression Feedback: Antidepressants don’t cause suicide, if the person is already predisposed toward acting out with their depression, if antidepressantss treatments don’t work we may never know if a person follows through with the act.
Depression Feedback: Ok first of all this is a logical question, however one that is commonly misunderstood. Anti-depressants do NOT cause suicide, what happends is if a person is severely depressed, they are at a stage where they have no motivation or energy to actually commit suicide…. so when they start taking an antidepressant they start to get better and then they get enough energy and motivation to actually go through with it. However this does not happen very often and there are various ways to prevent it.
In your case, i would not worry about the suicide issue but feel free to ask your doctor. You should ask about which medications help to decrease anxiety during the withdrawal stage of smoking. Talk to your doctor. Good luck!

Depression Feedback: I don’t think antidepressants themselves cause suicide. They only cause a personality change in people who are depressed, and when someone who is depressed is already considering suicide, antidepressants sometimes increase ambition, hence making it more likely that the person will act.
This is just an idea of mine, though, and I’m not sure if it’s right. I’m just contributing to the discussion.
