Can you answer MedGuy2012’s question about Depression?:
If a person is suffering from clinical depression, do they have the right to decide to euthanize themselves?
If a person is suffering from clinical depression, do they have the right to decide to euthanize themselves?
Or would you say that they can not make such an informed decision in that mental state.
Medical euthanasia. Not suicide.
Signs Of Clinical Depression

Depression Feedback: I would say that they cannot make an informed decision due to mental illness/diminished capacity.
Depression Feedback: The government should make it mandatory!!
Depression Feedback: They should have the right, it is called freedom.
Depression Feedback: Only the liberals.
Depression Feedback: No, they should not be allowed to make that decision in that mental state.
Depression Feedback: They are obviously in the wrong state of mind so they shouldn’t be allowed to make that kind of decision. Isn’t attempting suicide illegal anyway?
Depression Feedback: Suicide is actually illegal in all cases. And no, they shouldn’t be allowed to do it just because they’re depressed. Help is available. I suffered from depression for years, then got better. After considering suicide several times, I’m glad I didn’t go through with it. Look at what I’d have missed..
Depression Feedback: No. There are plenty of alternatives that can profoundly improve their situation.
Depression Feedback: not for depression. However I do believe that people who are in terrible physical condition (cancer, lou gerig’s disease etc) be allowed to . People who are depressed don’t usually have anything physically wrong with them
Depression Feedback: I think they aren’t able to make that decision due to their mental state…there are medications for depression.
Depression Feedback: I think anyone should have the right to euthanize themselves. I own my body, and I have that choice…..right? I think it’s a double standard that “it’s my body” works to make abortion illegal, but it doesn’t work to make euthanasia legal. There is no debate on whether my body is really mine or not, whereas the status of a fetus is often debated……
Depression Feedback: Well, don’t they already? If they do and succeed then they don’t face any legal circumstances. I know that may sound harsh but the only way that they would face legal issues is if they don’t succeed. Then usually isn’t it more of the psychological help than anything concerning jail time? I think that in a lot of cases, and this may just be my opinion, a lot of “failed” suicide attempts may be veiled cries for help, which they receive even though they may claim they don’t want it. I think that if they try then we should do everything to help them if they don’t succeed.
Depression Feedback: I think that this is just stupid. Depressed people are sick people and we need to be there for them. Not allow and encourage them to kill themselves.
Depression Feedback: lots of people can live normal lives with medication. i think you are an insensitive idiot for even asking that question!!!!
Depression Feedback: People who are suffering from clinical depression should not be allowed to euthanise themselves; it would be the same as letting pedophiles work at Toys R Us. When someone has a problem or, in this case, more of a fixation on a particular feeling, more work should be done to accurately diagnose and treat the problem
